Catherine's Annual Festive Carol Concert Honours Community Volunteers

Her Royal Highness has organised her yearly Christmas carol concert at the iconic London venue, with attendees featuring royals, celebrities and local heroes who have helped their communities.

The 1,600 guests will listen to a blend of festive songs, musical performances, and spoken word pieces from performers including Kate Winslet and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

Centred Around Kindness and Compassion

The central message of the service, held in the glowing Westminster Abbey on the afternoon, is kindness and showing love to others.

Attending the event are Anna and Jonathan Cordiner, whose young girl was lost to a brain cancer, and who set up a charity, a support fund, to support families who have a child with a terminal illness.

"The dedication, empathy, and kindness you show, often quietly and unspoken, and without any thought of thanks or praise, make an remarkable change to the lives of others," wrote Catherine in a letter ahead of the carol service.

A Steady Comeback

The Princess of Wales is continuing her own steady comeback to public life after her cancer diagnosis and chemotherapy, in November making her major oration since 2023, in which she reflected on recognising the "quiet, often invisible work of caring".

Musical Talent and Access

Attendees entering the Abbey will be entertained by talented youth performers aided by the Future Talent charity, co-founded by the former royal to broaden opportunities for instrumental training.

An 18-year-old named Carys Wood, who is a trumpet player and is from Wales, has been helped by the charity, with grants helping towards equipment, teaching, and travel fees - and she said it was "incredible" to be playing at the evening's event.

"Musical pursuits are frequently pricey," the musician remarked. She is now studying at the Royal Academy of Music, and added that "all people deserve the chance" to develop their musical skills.

A Sisterly Duo

Her younger sibling Eliza, aged 11, who plays the euphonium, will also be at the Abbey. "I never thought I'd be able to play there in front of so many distinguished guests," she said.

Among the guests will be representatives of different generations.

That will encompass Saphia Turner, aged nine, winner of a prize for youthful altruism, who creates and sells art and completes fundraising tasks to collect donations for community pantries.

Seasonal Ambiance and Entertainment

The Abbey has been adorned with custom-created holiday decorations, with celebrity baker Mary Berry and floral designer Simon Lycett assisting in their creation.

The musical lineup includes recording artist Katie Melua, choristers from Westminster Abbey and a maritime folk band from Cornwall, the group Fisherman's Friends, who said the chance to take part was "the perfect culmination."

This annual carol service will be broadcast on ITV1 on Christmas Eve.
